A few people  have contacted me about getting rid of their iPhone 2 & 3G’s for the new iPhone 4 and truly the only thing I’ve been able to tell them on how to get rid of it besides throwing away WHICH IS A BIG NO NO, is giving it to a friend.

Well I think I now have a better solution for those iPhone 2 and 3G owners and it’s to make money off it.There’s a service called SellMyMobile.com and of course, it’s FREE to use. What SellMyMobile does is they search numbers of phone recyclers to find you the best rate that you will receive on sending in  your old iPhone – super useful! They say  this guarantees each user the best price for their phone. I love this service and services like this because they help keep those old cells out of the freakin’ landfill where they DON’T belong, it’s just incredible to me how many people continue to dispose of electronics in the landfill.

I also think you could use this service to help fundraise for your new iPhone 4 without having any old ones as they take trade-in’s of over types of phones. So those dumb phones can you some money back as well.

Anywho, the only thing I don’t like about this service is that it’s only serves the UK, but if you live there AWESOME! In the U.S. you could find the nearest recycler and donate your phone or you could use one of these methods to get rid of your old phone.

Do you think someone that you just don’t want to access to your iPhone voicemail has it, an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend, nosy relative, or a friend who you wanted to give access to your voicemail that doesn’t need it anymore? How about forgetting your iPhone voicemail password, did you do that, well we have a solution nonetheless. Change your voicemail password. That’s right, it’s so easy to do, so let’s get to it… Do you know your password and just want to change it? Follow the below directions….

1. From your iPhone Home Screen, tap on “Settings“
2. Scroll down the list and tap on “Phone“
3. Scroll down the list on this menu and tap on “Change Voicemail Password“
4. From this screen, follow the prompt and Enter your current iPhone voicemail password.
5. Now enter the new password.

You are done. This was simple!

Now, if you have forgotten your password and would like to reset your iPhone voicemail password, you have two options and I have provided directions for both below.

Reset your password via automated voice system (directions for AT&T customers)

1. From your phone, “Call 611″
2. Enter your iPhone wireless number starting with area code.
3. Press 3 to “Get Help with Voicemail“.
4. Press 3 to reset your VM password.
5. Enter your Billing Zip code.

That’s it! Simply wait for a text message to be sent to your iPhone and you are done.

Reset your password via online account (directions for AT&T customers):

So we’ve been riding on all the news released about the new iPhone 4 and we are one step closer to ‘D-Day’ with the availability of the pre-order. Yes, it’s that time guys and there are a few places where you can place your pre-order today. So let’s get into where exactly you can beat everyone (ok – everyone that doesn’t pre-order) to the punch.

1. Apple Store – OF COURSE. Remember this includes the online store AND the new iPhone App with the Apple Store.

So, feeling lately that you aren’t the privileged few, probably because you don’t have access the newly released, official WWDC 2010 iPhone app. Pretty sucky huh? Only if you aren’t the one with the app.Today Apple has released its official application for WWDC attendees. It’s available over at developer.apple.com/wwdc/app and requires you to login with the same account you used to purchase your WWDC ticket.

The app list different events, session updates, and more. So there you go! If you are one the lucky developers heading to WWDC June 7-11 then grab yours.

So I received a question via private message on FaceBook regarding transferring music from an iPod to another computer and thought it would be a great opportunity to answer this question on the blog, since I assume other people may have the same question. So let’s get to it…

The Question:

How can I transfer my music from my iPod to another computer? For some reason or another, my laptop crashed. I’m trying get my music onto my desktop…Do you know how?

The Answer:

Luckily, this is not an issue and is simple to do!  Plus, this is exactly what your iPod was made for (besides playing music). There are various solutions, but I have detailed the FREE solutions. Because quite frankly everyone likes free, right? Anywho…

Manual Transfer: (FREE and not dependent on third-party software)

What you will need:

• iTunes 7.0+
• iPod/iPod Touch (apparently)
• A computer that can run iTunes 7.0+
• Sync/Charge cord (white cord that charges your iPhone or iPod)

Instructions:

1. Make sure to install iTunes 7.0+ on the computer you wish to transfer your music.
2. Open iTunes on your computer and if this is your first time opening iTunes on this computer, make sure to run through the “iTunes Setup Assistant” first.
3. Connect your iPod or iPod Touch to your computer.
4. Note: If you already have music installed on this computer, MAKE SURE you perform a backup, BUT DO NOT allow iTunes to “Auto-Sync” or “Associate this computer with your iPod “. This will delete the music you have already in iTunes which you should consider your hard copy.
   
5. Now it’s time to actually copy the files:

On a PC:

• If your iPod was automatically detected, click on “iPod” (will appear in your “My Computer” folder).
• You should now see a folder within your iPod.
• Drag this folder over to your “My Music” folder on your PC hard drive. This will take a while as it is transferring your music to your desktop.
• Note: If your PC does not detect or show the folder, unhide the files.
• To unhide the files go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and then check (enable) the option “Show hidden files and folders.“

On a Mac:

• Click on “iPod” (will appear on your desktop once your iPod is connected).
• You should now see a folder within your iPod.
• Drag the iTunes folder from the iPod to the “Music” folder.

Note: The above “Mac” directions are for those who have older versions of iTunes and/or iPod. Currently with our iPhone, we simply connected the iPhone with the sync cord and the Mac detected it. Once the iPhone was detected it showed a list of songs and all you have to do is check which songs you would like to transfer. So apparently iPhone/iPod transfer to Mac is much easier!

Now just open iTunes and BAM it’s there!

Also note, that this technique works to transfer your movies and video as well.

Secondary Method: Automated Rip (FREE and Paid ,  dependent on third-party app. Best for iPhone to PC transfer. EASIEST METHOD!)

This method will automated the entire thing for you. Simply download a third-party app and let them do the dirty work for you.

So multitasking is finally coming to (some) iPhones, iPod touches, and the iPad. This gives the user the ability to switch between applications without having to close one app in order to open another.

How it works

It will be as simple as double-clicking the home button on your device which will open a tray showing all running applications. Similar to the function you’re used to on your Mac (cmd + tab) and PC (alt + tab). So an example would be tapping a link within and email in Mail. Traditionally this would close Mail and launch the webpage within Safari. In the new OS, Mail would not close, but Safari would still open, allowing you to switch back to Mail when you’re done with Safari.

Apple also claims this will not deplete battery life or bog down your device. This is achieved by not giving all system resources available to every application that is open (which is how multi-tasking typically works). Instead, only the following specific actions are capable of doing this: background audio, voice over IP, background location, push notifications, local notifications, task completion, fast app switching.

Who can use it?

If you’re running on an iPhone 3GS or a 3rd Gen iPod Touch, then you’ll be able to enjoy this new feature of the OS. However original iPhone, iPhone 3G, and previous generation iPod Touch users will not get to use multitasking. This is not a shocker for original iPhone devices, but as the 3G is still on sale and one of the most popular of the devices, this is a bummer. The iPad will see this new OS and multitasking this Fall, while everyone else can see it this summer.

You didn’t think anything new was coming from Apple so soon after the launch of the iPad, you are wrong (and aren’t we all usually when it comes to Apple, lol).

They have finally announced the future plans for iPhone 4.0 so guys get your iPhones and iPods ready.

• Multitasking: It’s here – finally. It’s handled with a simple task switcher: double click your home button, and you get a list of running apps.  CAN WE GET AN AMEN FOR MULTITASKING!!!

• Fast app switching: With iPhone 4′s multitasking, most apps aren’t actually running in the background—just certain functions of the app, like an audio stream or a GPS lock. But! All apps can now be frozen, in full, so that when you reopen them, they’re restored to exactly the state they were in when they were closed.

•Per-app SMS and alerts: Notifications can be sent from apps on the phone, not just remote services. In other words, if something important happens in an app you’ve opened and moved away from, a notification will pop up in whatever app you’re using at the time, effectively saying “switch back to me!” It’s a fairly clever way to keep track of background apps without the need for a start bar or dock-type interface.

•App folders: Now you can sort your apps into folders! That’s homescreen clutter solved, then.

• A new Mail App: Unified inboxes! Multiple Exchange accounts! Fast inbox switching! Threaded messages!

• iBooks: Oh hey, that iBooks ebook reader app and accompanying store from the iPad has ambled on down to the iPhone. Nice, since you can now take your books with you wherever you go, as oppose to wherever you go with your iPad.

• Custom Backgrounds: Now you can choose a persistent background for your iPhone—and not just for the lockscreen.

• Game center: Apple’s going to roll out a centralized gaming service—a multiplayer network like PSN or Xbox Live—to help connect games to one another, by the end on the year.

• iAd Advertising: It looks like Apple’s finally rolling out its own advertising platform, a turnkey ad plugin for developers called iAd. The theory here is that instead of relying on links to external websites, developers can use Apple’s new tools to keep people in the app while still showing them advertising—sort of like popover browser windows. You can watch videos, play games, and even buy apps from within these ads.

• 5x digital zoom

• Tap to focus video

• Bluetooth keyboards

Your “Sent from my iPhone” email signature not saying enough to your contacts? Change it!

Use your signature change as the perfect opportunity to remind your contact about your company, remind them where you are, make them aware of your Twitter account, etc. Anything you would like to add in your signature (within characters or less, ) you can add in your iPhone signature.

So how do you do it, get on with it already? Ok, ok!

1. From your iPhone or iPod Home screen, tap “Settings“
2. Scroll down and tap on “Mail, Contacts, Calendars“
3. Scroll down again until you find “Signature” and tap on it to change your signature.
4. The iPhone keyboard will pop-up and will be pre-filled with the words “Sent from my iPhone“. You can change this signature to whatever you would like.
5. Once you have changed the signature, simply press the “Mail” arrow at the top of screen pointed backwards and your signature will be instantly saved.

That’s it! To check your work (like all of your Math teachers so often reminded you to do) simply draft an email from the phone and it should appear at the bottom of your email. If you don’t like how it appears, repeat the steps and format as you would like it to display.

Interview with Craig Caruso of CarusoApps

Q: How long have you been developing for the iPhone/iPod platform?

1 year

Q: Describe your app(s)?

We have a baseball team management app – iLineup, an app for NJ home buyers, and an informative app for Dock Street – one of Staten Island, NY’s most popular bars.

Q: Who is/are your app(s) for? –

Depending on which app, they apply to a wide audience. Everyone from baseball fans to new home buyers to bar hoppers.

Q: What did you do before developing for the iPhone/iPod platform? –

I work for a VoIP company and develop for the iPhone on the side.

Q: What’s the greatest and worst thing about developing for the iPhone and iPod? –

The app approval process has to have increased sales for Tylenol and Advil….

Q: What were your major problems when releasing your iPhone app? –

As stated above, the app approval process was somewhat difficult. But once over that hurdle, finding all the bugs and correcting them in a timely manner was probably the only real problem I had.

Q: Do you intend on making an iPad app? –

Yes. I intend to revamp iLineup to run natively on the iPad.

Q: Do you have any cool future projects in the pipeline?

Of course we do! We’re working on a simple, but addicting, game as well as some other apps.

Q: Anything you want iPhone users to think about or realize when it comes to app ?

– I just hope they realize the amazing deals that they’re getting on the majority of these apps. So much work goes into them behind the scenes so that all the end user has to do is download and tap! It’s worth every single cent of the $1 or $2 paid for the average app.

Q: Are you looking for employees, partners, funding or anything that will help grow your company in the future? –

We’re always looking for ways to expand our business, so if you’ve got an idea feel free to present it to us!

Q: What iPhone/iPod tip would you like to give our iPhone users? –

Reboot your phone once in a while. If it is acting slow, it’s not breaking! It’s just running out of memory and needs a refresh. It is a mini-computer, after all.

Q: What are your favorite iPhone apps besides your own? –

Words With Friends, TweetDeck, Facebook, eBay… The list could go on and on!

Besides all of the incredible games that have been released on the iPhone OS platform over the last couple of years (can’t believe we can actually type that about the iPhone, it seems like only yesterday, teardrop) the iPhone has not really been seen as a ‘gaming device’ to many users. Once again the good ‘ole  iPhone teaches us a lesson. Apple’s iPhone OS is taking bites at Nintendo and Playstation’s market share, according to Flurry Analytics and according to them these aren’t small bites we are talking about. Did anyone think it was eating the market share of the mega gaming companies? Quite frankly I didn’t, but I am always kind of wrong at market share predictions anyway. The evidence was always SMACK dab in my face – I mean come on. At any given time you can see that 7 of the 10 Top AppStore apps are consistently GAMES, and if you think about it your first download to your iPhone or iPod Touch was probably a game.

Also keep in mind the iPad, the newest member to the Apple family is arriving April 3 and it’s been reported by Flurry Analytics that 44% of the apps tested on the Apple iPad are GAMES (and we all thought this was just going to be a reading device, lol)!

So now for the questions. If in 2008 Apple only skimmed 5% from the largest players in the game industry and in 2009 they grabbed 19%, what will Apple’s market share be after this? Have you given up your Nintendo DS or your Playstation portable device to simply consolidate your handheld entertainment all into the iPhone? Have you decided against purchasing one of these devices for the all-in-one iPhone? Let us know, we wanna hear you!
