A few people  have contacted me about getting rid of their iPhone 2 & 3G’s for the new iPhone 4 and truly the only thing I’ve been able to tell them on how to get rid of it besides throwing away WHICH IS A BIG NO NO, is giving it to a friend.

Well I think I now have a better solution for those iPhone 2 and 3G owners and it’s to make money off it.There’s a service called SellMyMobile.com and of course, it’s FREE to use. What SellMyMobile does is they search numbers of phone recyclers to find you the best rate that you will receive on sending in  your old iPhone – super useful! They say  this guarantees each user the best price for their phone. I love this service and services like this because they help keep those old cells out of the freakin’ landfill where they DON’T belong, it’s just incredible to me how many people continue to dispose of electronics in the landfill.

I also think you could use this service to help fundraise for your new iPhone 4 without having any old ones as they take trade-in’s of over types of phones. So those dumb phones can you some money back as well.

Anywho, the only thing I don’t like about this service is that it’s only serves the UK, but if you live there AWESOME! In the U.S. you could find the nearest recycler and donate your phone or you could use one of these methods to get rid of your old phone.

Do you think someone that you just don’t want to access to your iPhone voicemail has it, an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend, nosy relative, or a friend who you wanted to give access to your voicemail that doesn’t need it anymore? How about forgetting your iPhone voicemail password, did you do that, well we have a solution nonetheless. Change your voicemail password. That’s right, it’s so easy to do, so let’s get to it… Do you know your password and just want to change it? Follow the below directions….

1. From your iPhone Home Screen, tap on “Settings“
2. Scroll down the list and tap on “Phone“
3. Scroll down the list on this menu and tap on “Change Voicemail Password“
4. From this screen, follow the prompt and Enter your current iPhone voicemail password.
5. Now enter the new password.

You are done. This was simple!

Now, if you have forgotten your password and would like to reset your iPhone voicemail password, you have two options and I have provided directions for both below.

Reset your password via automated voice system (directions for AT&T customers)

1. From your phone, “Call 611″
2. Enter your iPhone wireless number starting with area code.
3. Press 3 to “Get Help with Voicemail“.
4. Press 3 to reset your VM password.
5. Enter your Billing Zip code.

That’s it! Simply wait for a text message to be sent to your iPhone and you are done.

Reset your password via online account (directions for AT&T customers):

So I received a question via private message on FaceBook regarding transferring music from an iPod to another computer and thought it would be a great opportunity to answer this question on the blog, since I assume other people may have the same question. So let’s get to it…

The Question:

How can I transfer my music from my iPod to another computer? For some reason or another, my laptop crashed. I’m trying get my music onto my desktop…Do you know how?

The Answer:

Luckily, this is not an issue and is simple to do!  Plus, this is exactly what your iPod was made for (besides playing music). There are various solutions, but I have detailed the FREE solutions. Because quite frankly everyone likes free, right? Anywho…

Manual Transfer: (FREE and not dependent on third-party software)

What you will need:

• iTunes 7.0+
• iPod/iPod Touch (apparently)
• A computer that can run iTunes 7.0+
• Sync/Charge cord (white cord that charges your iPhone or iPod)

Instructions:

1. Make sure to install iTunes 7.0+ on the computer you wish to transfer your music.
2. Open iTunes on your computer and if this is your first time opening iTunes on this computer, make sure to run through the “iTunes Setup Assistant” first.
3. Connect your iPod or iPod Touch to your computer.
4. Note: If you already have music installed on this computer, MAKE SURE you perform a backup, BUT DO NOT allow iTunes to “Auto-Sync” or “Associate this computer with your iPod “. This will delete the music you have already in iTunes which you should consider your hard copy.
   
5. Now it’s time to actually copy the files:

On a PC:

• If your iPod was automatically detected, click on “iPod” (will appear in your “My Computer” folder).
• You should now see a folder within your iPod.
• Drag this folder over to your “My Music” folder on your PC hard drive. This will take a while as it is transferring your music to your desktop.
• Note: If your PC does not detect or show the folder, unhide the files.
• To unhide the files go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and then check (enable) the option “Show hidden files and folders.“

On a Mac:

• Click on “iPod” (will appear on your desktop once your iPod is connected).
• You should now see a folder within your iPod.
• Drag the iTunes folder from the iPod to the “Music” folder.

Note: The above “Mac” directions are for those who have older versions of iTunes and/or iPod. Currently with our iPhone, we simply connected the iPhone with the sync cord and the Mac detected it. Once the iPhone was detected it showed a list of songs and all you have to do is check which songs you would like to transfer. So apparently iPhone/iPod transfer to Mac is much easier!

Now just open iTunes and BAM it’s there!

Also note, that this technique works to transfer your movies and video as well.

Secondary Method: Automated Rip (FREE and Paid ,  dependent on third-party app. Best for iPhone to PC transfer. EASIEST METHOD!)

This method will automated the entire thing for you. Simply download a third-party app and let them do the dirty work for you.

• PC iPod Rip Solutions
• Mac iPod Rip Solutions

When I first got the iPhone I was amazed at it’s simplicity. “Wow” I thought. “Almost everything works as it should” . Well, even though that is not so much the case anymore, the caplock feature falls into this category and I didn’t realize it until later.

As soon as I discovered that I didn’t have to press the caplocks button each and every time I wanted a letter caplocked, I quite frankly felt, well….silly   and even a little upset that I didn’t realize this earlier, lol. How much time could I have saved if I would have simply used one of the two easy caplocking methods that exist.

So to spare anyone else the “sillset” moment (a horrible attempt at merging the word silly and upset ) , I give you the two simple caplocking methods.

For a Quick Fix:

1. Simply hold down shift (the “UP” arrow on the left of the keyboard) as you type. Even though I found this a little difficult to do as I typed anything near the shift button.

Which is why I prefer the next method…

Change your settings:

1. From your iPhone Home screen, tap “Settings“.
2. Scroll down and tap on “General“
3. Scroll down on this screen and tap on “Keyboard“
4. Tap on “Enable Cap Lock“
5. Press the “Home” button (the large button at the bottom on your iPhone) to return to your home.

Now test out your caplocks settings by double tapping the caplocks button and typing multiple letters.

See, I told you it would work!

Your “Sent from my iPhone” email signature not saying enough to your contacts? Change it!

Use your signature change as the perfect opportunity to remind your contact about your company, remind them where you are, make them aware of your Twitter account, etc. Anything you would like to add in your signature (within characters or less, ) you can add in your iPhone signature.

So how do you do it, get on with it already? Ok, ok!

1. From your iPhone or iPod Home screen, tap “Settings“
2. Scroll down and tap on “Mail, Contacts, Calendars“
3. Scroll down again until you find “Signature” and tap on it to change your signature.
4. The iPhone keyboard will pop-up and will be pre-filled with the words “Sent from my iPhone“. You can change this signature to whatever you would like.
5. Once you have changed the signature, simply press the “Mail” arrow at the top of screen pointed backwards and your signature will be instantly saved.

That’s it! To check your work (like all of your Math teachers so often reminded you to do) simply draft an email from the phone and it should appear at the bottom of your email. If you don’t like how it appears, repeat the steps and format as you would like it to display.

After reading that Apple did so well with sales in October, I wanted to write a blog post for the newbies out there. So here are five tips for the iPhone and iPod Touch Newbies.

#1 – How to Delete Items in Your Email or on a list

You are not going to believe how simple this is to do. It’s so in your face, when I found out when I first got my iPhone a year ago, I laughed. To delete items from a list or within your email, simply swipe your finger across the item you want to delete. A red “Delete” button will appear , tap the delete button, and it’s gone. I know, too easy!

#2 -Emailing Multiple Photos

Those cute photos you took of yourself, your kid, your dog, whomever MUST be sent to everyone, they are just too adorable to stay on your iPhone or iPod Touch. So don’t send just one pic at a time, send them all (well 5, you can’t do any more than that yet on the iPhone).

1. Tap on the Photos app.
2. Tap on your camera roll.
3. At the bottom of the screen, press the arrow button in the bottom left corner on your screen.
4. Select the photos you want to share and tap “Share” when you are done.
5. Select the method in which you want to share and it is as good as sent.

#3 -Take a Screen shot

You have something cool on your iPhone or iPod Touch that you want to show your friends, so take a screen shot of it. Simply hold your home button and the power button (the small silver button at the top of your device) and your screen shot will be taken.

#4 – How to download apps and Redeem Promo Codes

Those commercials featuring all those cool app had you sold. Now you just have to figure out how to download them. Luckily, this is simple. Simply:

1. Tap on the App Store icon on your iPhone or iPod Touch home screen.
2. Browse by category or search.
3. Tap the app icon and press the button that shows the price.
4. It will instantly download the app and install it on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Were you lucky enough to get a promo code for an app, just need to know how to redeem it:

From your iPhone or iPod Touch:

1. Open the AppStore
2. Tap on Featured from the bottom menu bar.
3. Scroll all the way down the list until you see the word “Redeem”.
4. Put in the code and press “Redeem”!

#5 – How to Delete Apps

So you’ve download an app and hate it or just realized it’s not for you, well luckily it’s easy to delete. Simply hold down the icon for a few seconds you want to delete. All of your apps will start to shake and will have an “X” on them. Tap the “X” mark on the app you want to delete and it’s gone.

Press your “Home” button to when you are done.

You love your iPhone and when you are not using all of those wonderful apps that you have for your iPhone, you actually use it to make phone calls, no kidding! Well, I have a tip for you when you receive phone calls that you are too busy at the time to answer or just quite frankly want to ignore at the moment. You can send phone calls directly to voicemail using your iPhone power button, how neat right!? More after the jump.

So when receiving an incoming call that you want to send directly to your voicemail simply press the power button, the small silver button located at the top of your iPhone, twice and the call will be immediately sent straight to voicemail!

Another quick tip with your iPhone power button and your phone calls: Muted Phone Call Ringing.

So you’ve found yourself in an important meeting, a very quiet library or even a doctor’s office that doesn’t allow cellphone use, yet someone insists on speaking to you now! All you have to do to spare yourself the ugly looks is quickly press the power button once and the ringing on your iPhone will be muted instantly. Nice save!

So you’ve done some crazy stuff to your iPhone. You’ve removed the default applications from your iPhone , you’ve changed the wallpaper, jailbroken it, whatever. Well here is how you restore your iPhone or iPod Touch to the original settings.

Luckily the guys at Apple were smart enough to realize that users make mistakes (go figure), so they made the  Restore function for your iPhone or iPod Touch a standard procedure. Fair warning: BEFORE YOU RESTORE YOUR iPhone PLEASE PERFORM A BACKUP. Restoring your device will delete all the data from your iPhone or iPod touch, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. ALL iPhone or iPod touch settings are restored to their factory condition.

So let’s begin restoring your iPhone or iPod Touch:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed and running before attempting to update.
2. Connect your iPhone or iPod touch to your computer.
3. Select your iPhone or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
4. Select the “Summary” tab.
5. Select the “Restore” option.
6. When prompted to back up your iPhone or iPod touch’s settings before restoring, select the Back Up option.
7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you.
8. Once the restore process has completed the iPhone or iPod touch restarts and displays the Apple logo while starting up:
9. NOTE FOR iPhone ONLY: After a restore, the iPhone displays the “Connect to iTunes” screen. Keep your iPhone connected until the “Connect to iTunes” screen goes away or you see “iPhone is Activated.” If iTunes does not have an Internet connection, this step can’t be complete.
10. Once your iPod touch or iPhone is restored , add the backed up data onto your iPhone or iPod Touch by selecting the correct backup file from the drop down.
11. Select the backup you want for your iPhone or iPod touch and select the Continue button in order to complete your device’s restoration.

Don’t want to restore from backup? Then select “Set up as new…”  If you want to preserve previous backups that iTunes has made, be sure to back up the appropriate directory before choosing to set up as new.

Yea! Now you have just like new iPhone or iPod Touch.

Those trendy white earbuds that you have only used for listening to your music, do more than you might realize. The iPhone’s headphones have a small button on the microphone and it performs multiple functions. Some of the things you would fumble to do while taking your daily run, enjoying your music on a long flight, or just trying to ignore an annoying friend, might become easier with a few iPhone  headphone tips.  So let’s get it going!

While you are in a phone call:

1. Press the button on your headphone once to answer a call.
2. Press the button on your headphone twice to send the call to voicemail.
3. Press the button on your headphone once to hang up a call.

When you are on a call while and a second call comes in:

1. Press the button once to hold current call and switch to new call.
2. Hold the button for 2 seconds and release to ignore new call.

iPod Functions:

1. Press the button once to to start the iPod and begin playing a song.
2. Press the button again to pause the track
3. Double-tap the button to skip to the next song.
