#1 – CellFire

This app brings the coupons with you to the store. By having your iPhone or iPod Touch loaded with Cellfire you will ALWAYS have savings right in your pocket, without tediously clipping a thing. It’s so easy to use and of course saves the bucks. Simply select your grocery store, enter your shopping card number, choose the coupons you want to use and BAM the coupons will be ready to use from your phone in minutes. #2 – Coupons.com

Almost the same principle as CellFire except not as neatly executed, but still a money saving app. Simply download the app, select the coupons you want to use in the future, and enter your email address. The Coupons.com app will then send a link to your email with the select coupons you wanted to print. Like I said, not as intuitive, but as every serious couponer knows, the coupons found on Coupons.com are must haves.

#3 – Loan Calculator

No not a fun, entertaining spectacle app. It’s so straight forward you would hate not to use it. Loan Calculator is quite frankly what the app name implies, use this as you go and purchase that new BMW 335i  Coupe and realize how much your ‘I got to have it car‘ will cost you exactly. Even when you find yourself browsing homes, get the price off that sales flyer and whip some calculations together to realize just how much you will be giving your favorite mortgagee in free money as interest.

#4 – Yowza

What coupons CellFire and Coupons.com don’t handle, Yowza seems to. Yowza follows the same principle as CellFire, with more of a focus towards entertainment  or big box retail shops, i.e restaurants, linen shopping, etc. for savings. Get this app to fill in where CellFire and Coupons.com leave off!

#5 – Mint.com

Do you always remember to pay EVERY bill on time? How about checking the interest rates on your credit cards often to see if you are getting the best rate?  If you are that dedicated finance god or goddess , great for you – you can still use Mint. Mint is easier to describe for what it doesn’t do. Mint does not  pay your bills for you, there I said it! Mint is definitely one of my favorite money saving apps -  it tracks your payments, tracks every expense you make (yes even those fast food runs you always want to deny to yourself that you aren’t making) , notifies you of interest and fees paid, notifies you whether you’re going over budget or not , and of course much much more. Get it….it’s free, has a nifty website counterpart, and of course will save you money.

#6 – Gift Card

Have you ever received a gift card for the holidays or a birthday and realized later that you didn’t bring the card with you, don’t know the expiration or the balance of that particular card? Well, Gift Card is going to become your new best friend. Gift Card for the iPhone and iPod Touch tracks everything plus some when it comes to your gift cards. You can even take and store a photo of both sides of the card and track each transaction you made on each gift card. So helpful and so on time. Now all your favorite retail stores can forget about you contributing to the billions of dollars they earn off of unused gift card balances!

Is It Me lets users take a photo and create a composite that is one half of a face and its mirrored opposite. People look so different that they almost always ask, “Is It Me?!” which is where the app’s name came from. The results are typically hilarious and tend to show up at parties and family gatherings.

The developers of Classics wanted to apparently give everyone the opportunity to try out Classics and you should take advantage of this if you are interested. Classics is a book app that allows you to read classic book titles on your iPhone and iPod Touch.

Macworld has announced the Best of Show Winners and I honestly don’t recognize any of these apps besides Billings Touch, so I am excited to look more into these apps and tools. Check the winners out and congrats to all the developers involved on their success.When it comes to Macworld Expo, there’s one question that Macworld editors are asked without fail: What are the most interesting products at the show? And that’s the idea behind the Macworld Expo Best of Show awards–to highlight the products that stand out at the show.

Picking the Best of Show winners wasn’t easy. There were lots of new Mac, iPhone, and iPod products to consider, and the Macworld editors had strong opinions on each one. Eventually, we came to a consensus on 11 products worthy of Best of Show. Here’s a list of the winners.

Canson Papershow
Last year, the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen was a Best of Show winner. The Papershow ($200) uses a camera-equipped pen similar to the Smartpen in conjunction with special paper that transmits your handwriting to a screen. For example, you can present a slide show with, say, a bar chart, and you can make annotation to the chart that appears on screen in real time. You can even print the annotated slides, or export them as PDFs.

Carina Software SkyFi
Got a GoTo telescope? Got an iPhone? With SkyFi ($150) and the SkyVoyager ($15) iPhone app, you can use your iPhone to control your telescope. The SkyFi is a Wi-Fi device that connects to a GoTo telecope’s RS-232 port, and you can also use your Mac as a remote control. And since the SkyFi supports TCP/IP, you can set it up so that your telescope can be controller remotely over the Internet.

FastMac U-Socket
More and more people are using mobile devices, which means more and more people need a convenient way to charge the batteries in those devices. With the U-Socket ($30), you can plug your iPhone, iPod, digital camera, or other device directly into the wall, without needing a power adapter. The USB ports output 5V at 600 mA, and they have power only when a device is connected. FastMac is still waiting for UL approval on the U-Socket, but they hope to start shipping soon.

Frolicware AutoPark
Here’s an iPhone app you might wish you had before coming to San Francisco and Macworld Expo. AutoPark ($5) is all about parking your car. It helps you track the time left on a parking meter; uses GPS to help find your car; find nearby gas stations, banks, and bathrooms; and more. In cities like San Francisco, where meter maids are aggressive, AutoPark can cave you from a costly parking ticket.

Inrix Traffic Pro
Here’s an iPhone app that’s also great for driving into a major city, to work or a road trip. Inrix Traffic! Pro ($10 for one year, $25 lifetime) helps you plan your commute with real-time traffic reports. It can tell you where there are incidents and events that influence traffic. The app even lets you access traffic cameras so you can see for yourself what’s happening on the road.

Kanex HDMI to Mini DisplayPort Connector
The current 27-inch iMacs have a Mini DisplayPort capable of accepting a video signal so you can use the iMac as a display. You could connect a Playstation 3 or Blu-ray player to the 27-inch iMac–but you need a HDMI-to-Mini DisplayPort video-in adapter, and the Kanex’s HDMI to Mini DisplayPort Connector ($150) is the first such adapter we’ve seen. It opens up the possibilities of using the 27-inch iMac as the centerpiece of your home entertainment center.

Marketcircle Billings Touch
We like Billings, Marketcircle’s well-designed time-billing program for the Mac, and we’re glad to see Billings Touch ($15) on the iPhone. It’s one of the better apps of its kind. Though it syncs with Billings on the Mac, Billings Touch is full-featured and works well on its own. Billings touch makes it easy to track your expenses, and you can even invoice clients from the iPhone.

Microvision ShowWX
The trend in the projector market is to go small, and more manufacturers are releasing pico projectors. The ShowWX ($500) is the only pico projector that uses laser technology that produces color that’s better than other, non-laser based pico projectors. It comes with a cable for connecting to an iPod nano, iPod touch, or iPhone.

Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite
With Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite ($20) traveling business users may finally be able to leave their laptop inside their hotel room’s safe and rely only on the iPhone or iPod touch. Quickoffice offers a pair of full-featured office applications (Quickword and Quicksheet) that let you create, open and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents. You can also access files that are stored on online storage services like DropBox, Google Docs, and MobileMe.

SachManya Yapper
Seems like everyone is making an iPhone app. And if you’re a content creator, you need one, too. Yapper is an online service that gives content creators access to easy-to-use tools to create an iPhone app-you don’t need to know how to code. Apps built on Yapper use your existing RSS feeds, have an optimized user interface, can cache content for offline reading, and more.

Ten One Design Inklet
This ingenious application expends the functionality of the MacBook’s multitouch trackpad, allowing it to be used like a Wacom tablet. When using Inklet ($25) with the Pogo Sketch ($15) stylus, it even has pressure sensitivity, and it can sense unwanted trackpad touches.

So the MacWorld Expo begins today (the fun part at least) and so far, so little discussion or news about the event as a whole (excluding all the news of it’s “inevitable demise”). Since Apple’s announced departure from the show , many have written this year as the beginning of the end for the MacWorld Expo, but is it really?

Honestly…I don’t even think there will be an answer for this until the 2011 MacWorld show, as I think even this year’s show will be a hard determinate. It’s just so many little things in and against the show’s favor. Let’s think for a second about a few of the things MacWorld does have going for it:

1. The iPad News. Any new products or apps related to the iPad may gain a little momentum and interest for those that would like to attend the show as everyone is curious to see anything iPad related, but I don’t think that any vendors signed up in time to get a booth,you never know though.
2. The TRUE Apple fans , the people that love everything and anything Apple related. Those that have attended the show year after year and have no plans of not attending because they went for more than the Keynote.
3. Lot’s of iPhone developers exhibiting because of “affordable” (I use affordable loosely) exhibition rates.
4. FREE Admission. First of all FREE need I say more and hey, even if find yourself bored or curious enough this Friday or Saturday and in the San Fran area you always know you can drop by for free.

And now for the negative….

1. The iPad News (yes, I am fully aware I listed it twice, lol). Seriously, the iPad news is so two weeks ago (a total poke at our attention span today). We know it’s coming, we know exactly what it is, there is nothing else we need to know besides who we need to beat up in the Apple store to be first in line.  Also, can you imagine this year’s MacWorld attendance or media attention if the iPad rumors were still floating around and the Keynote was held there, YOWZERS!
2. The recovering economy.Yes, the economy, it affects everything you know. I mean think about it, if you don’t live in or around the beautiful San Fransisco area you needed to make some travel plans i.e. plane tickets, rental car, lodging and general travel expenses. With the reportedly high unemployment rate I think some people will have to skip this year’s show to save a little. This doesn’t mean that if things pick up they won’t attend next year.
3. Last but not least – the Apple presence. Besides THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT a lot of people just would have liked Apple to be there and the “mere mortals” like me would have loved to experience the iPad for themselves.

Nonetheless, we will totally be covering what we find interesting at The MacWorld Expo and hope to see some cool, undiscovered apps and products become discovered.  As for the future of the MacWorld Expo, we will have to wait until all is over plus some to see the true outcome of Apple’s departure.

The question is, will you attend or at the least be paying attention to the MacWorld show this year?
