When I first got the iPhone I was amazed at it’s simplicity. “Wow” I thought. “Almost everything works as it should” . Well, even though that is not so much the case anymore, the caplock feature falls into this category and I didn’t realize it until later.

As soon as I discovered that I didn’t have to press the caplocks button each and every time I wanted a letter caplocked, I quite frankly felt, well….silly and even a little upset that I didn’t realize this earlier, lol. How much time could I have saved if I would have simply used one of the two easy caplocking methods that exist.

So to spare anyone else the “sillset” moment (a horrible attempt at merging the word silly and upset ) , I give you the two simple caplocking methods.

For a Quick Fix:

Simply hold down shift (the “UP” arrow on the left of the keyboard) as you type. Even though I found this a little difficult to do as I typed anything near the shift button.

Which is why I prefer the next method…

Change your settings:

From your iPhone Home screen, tap “Settings“.

Scroll down and tap on “General“

Scroll down on this screen and tap on “Keyboard“

Tap on “Enable Cap Lock“

Press the “Home” button (the large button at the bottom on your iPhone) to return to your home.

Now test out your caplocks settings by double tapping the caplocks button and typing multiple letters.

See, I told you it would work!

Chao until next time my iPhone buddies! Also, if you have any questions, how-to’s, or tips you would like me to cover, just leave a comment and let me know. We are here to help!

Your “Sent from my iPhone” email signature not saying enough to your contacts? Change it!

Use your signature change as the perfect opportunity to remind your contact about your company, remind them where you are, make them aware of your Twitter account, etc. Anything you would like to add in your signature (within characters or less, ) you can add in your iPhone signature.

So how do you do it, get on with it already? Ok, ok!

From your iPhone or iPod Home screen, tap “Settings“

Scroll down and tap on “Mail, Contacts, Calendars“

Scroll down again until you find “Signature” and tap on it to change your signature.

The iPhone keyboard will pop-up and will be pre-filled with the words “Sent from my iPhone“. You can change this signature to whatever you would like.

Once you have changed the signature, simply press the “Mail” arrow at the top of screen pointed backwards and your signature will be instantly saved.

That’s it! To check your work (like all of your Math teachers so often reminded you to do) simply draft an email from the phone and it should appear at the bottom of your email. If you don’t like how it appears, repeat the steps and format as you would like it to display.

That’s all for now, chao!

Did someone use your phone and for some reason move around your icons? Have you download tons of apps and they are on every screen? Besides the option of reorganizing your app icons , you could simply reset them to the default iPhone & iPod settings.

“How do I reset my icons?” you excitedly ask ( well maybe not that excited, lol). Well all you to do is follow the steps below to simply and quickly restore your default icon positions.

Let us begin…

From the iPhone home screen, tap on “Settings“

On the setting screens, tap “General“

Now tap “Reset“.

From the Reset menu, choose “Reset Home Screen Layout“.

Tap the “Reset Home Screen” button.

Wholla! Check out your home screen, you icons are now reset.

I found this video on jailbreaking and posted it because alot of friends and readers ask me how to do it. Since, I haven’t done one myself I posted a how-to from someone, as I only post what I know and I really don’t need to jailbreak my iPhone.

What is Jailbreaking?

Jailbreaking your iPhone or iPod Touch just means that you are running unofficial Apple code, bypassing the “official” distribution of apps, i.e. a way to bypass using the AppStore.

Why would you jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch?

If you are using AT&T most people jailbreak their phone to enable tethering, which in my opinion should already be allowed, but that’s a whole other topic. Also, people usually jailbreak their iPhone to be able to download apps that are denied from the AppStore (even though these days we are hearing fewer app denial stories) or otherwise just not sold in the AppStore. Jailbreaking your iPhone also enables you to customize your phone a lot more than the stock phone, allowing you to do things like enabling app shortcuts and more info on your slide/unlock screen.

Why would you NOT jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch?

There is a security risk that comes with jailbreaking your iPhone. There are SOME that make apps that wouldn’t pass Apple’s security testing standards. Some of the jailbroken apps just aren’t as secure. Some apps are made to hack your iPhone and iPod Touch stealing very critical information unknowingly. Also, if you have purchased your iPhone or iPod Touch within a year, most likely you are still under warranty and jailbreaking your iPhone or iPod Touch takes that away.

What’s the difference between jailbreaking my iPhone or iPod Touch to unlocking my iPhone or iPod?

The simple answer: You jailbreak to access apps, you unlock your iPhone or iPod Touch to bypass the carrier/service provider. SIM unlocking, which is the process by which a mobile device is made compatible with telephone networks with which it was not specifically licensed to be used.

So I hope that is the info you need on jailbreaking and unlocking your iPhone or iPod . Please guys, perform a jailbreak at your own risk. Jailbreaks are said to be reversible, but please be careful.

When you see your battery life dwindling away, wouldn’t you like to know exactly how much battery life you have left, besides that dreaded “20% Battery Life” warning? Well if you have an iPhone 3GS this quick tip is for you…

For the iPhone 3GS, you can now display a percentage meter right next to the traditional battery life indicator. To enable the battery life percentage meter:

From your iPhone home screen, tap on “Settings“.

Next tap on “General“.

Now tap on “Usage” and flip the “Battery Percentage” switch on.

Now you’ll see the percentage of available battery right next to the battery icon! If you ever want to turn it off or find that this trick is not for your, simply flip it off. Now that was a little too simple.

When you hold your precious iPhone in your hands what is one of the first things you see, besides the screen silly, your iPhone’s home button! Believe it or not, Apple has made this button very helpful and it does more than close out your apps.

I will detail briefly the power of your iPhone Home Button, this is a total must have for any iPhone or iPod Touch power-users or the power-users in the making.

#1 - Go directly to the Home Screen.

You are a total app fanatic, you have 180 apps (the maximum number of apps you can have on an iPhone 4 on the home row and 176 on the other 11 pages, btw) and you want to just get to something on the first page. Don’t you dare swipe your finger across the page 11 times…no no no…simply tap your home button once and you are there.

#2 – Quickly get access to your tunes.

When your phone is locked there is absolutely no reason you should unlock the phone just to access your music on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Simply press the home button twice when you phone is locked and press play. It’s that easy folks.

#3 – Need to make a quick call.

That’s right, your iPhone home button handles this too. Simply double tap your iPhone’s home button from the first page/home screen and your iPhone will automatically pull up your

#4 – Send out the search dogs.

Ok, maybe not the search dogs, but with one touch of your iPhone or iPod Touch home button (with 3.0 software) from your home screen/first page you can instantly be sent to the search screen and begin your search.

#5 – Two words. Voice Control

Do you have an iPhone 3GS…well hold down your home button for a few seconds and your iPhone voice controls will ignite.

Boooo….no fair I don’t have a 3GS, ok here is another!

BONUS: Don’t like some of these functions for your home button, you can change them you know!

Yes the power of the iPhone and iPod once again. To change your home button settings:

From your home screen, tap on “Settings”

Tap on “General”

Scroll down and tap on “Home” and change your settings.

Do you always find yourself calling your favorite bill collector to question them about yet another unnecessary charge and pressing just too many additional extensions to get to the right person? Is it frustrating to call the Mr or Misses at work and have to wait for the prompt to enter their extension? If so you are going to need this how-to!

To spare yourself some time (and hair) use the following procedure to save an extension to your iPhone contacts.

Open the “Phone” app by tapping the “Phone” icon on your iPhone.

Either select a contact from your contact list to edit (just tap on the contact and tap “Edit” or add a new contact by press the “+” symbol on the top right of your iPhone screen).

Add or edit the phone number listed by tapping on the “Mobile” field.

This will take you to another screen where you can enter or edit a phone number.

Type the full number you wish to dial. (Ex. 1-888-888-8888)

When it’s time to enter the extension, press the “+*#” located in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Now enter the character the phone system you are calling accepts. For instance, if the extension is #66 , tap on the “#” sign and type (66) in the keypad.

If there is a pause in the system before you can get to an option that allows you to enter an extension where you are calling, simply enter the pause by tapping the “Pause” button and this will add a comma (, ) to the phone number.

Now “Save” the phone number and WHAM, you’ve save a phone number extension into your iPhone contacts list!

Note: You can use this for any number you want. Just tap the drop down and you can select from fax to iPhone, or Pager to Custom Label.

Follow along, you will love us for it.

1. Minimize your use of third-party apps.

That’s right. Those awesome iPhone apps that you download do drain your battery. The good news is as long as you minimize your use of third-party apps you should be fine. Also remember, all iPhone apps aren’t equal. There are just some apps , particularly games or apps that utilize vibration or GPS within the app, that can run your battery down.

2. Only pull one email account.

Instead of retrieving your email from multiple accounts, try pulling only one or two email accounts. It just takes more battery power to do it. Try setting up your multiple email accounts and feeding it into one account, this way you are only pulling one account on your phone.

3. Turn down your screen.

It’s that simple, turn it down. Simply go to your iPhone Settings –> Brightness , and lower the brightness of your screen. It’s that easy.

4. Turn off GPS.

On your iPhone, go to Settings–> General –> and use the slider to turn off “Location Services” aka GPS.

5. Turn off your iPhone WiFi.

Again, on your iPhone, go to Settings–> Wi-Fi–> and use the slider to turn off “Wi-Fi”.

That’s it, start saving your battery power.
